Argon Medical Adds New Chronic Hemodialysis Catheter to its Lineup

Argon Medical Devices has released its UltraStream Chronic Hemodialysis catheter in the United States. The technology was licensed from Rex Medical in November 2010, and originally was exhibited at the 37th Veithsymposium in New York City, N.Y. The catheter is designed to give dialysis patients long-term vascular access, according to the company.

Argon officials claim that UltraStream is unique in that it has dual lumen arterial lines and a modified step tip design that should facilitate insertion and provide higher flow rates. The special tip design allows for placement both over the wire and via a peel-away sheath. This design makes catheter exchanges easier that, the company claims, allows for a better patient and clinician experience.

UltraStream catheters are provided in a variety of set configurations. They may be ordered as a standard, peel-away or exchange kit. All three configurations include the 15.5 Fr catheter; the peel-away includes a peel away introducer with a valve; and the exchange kit includes only the catheter, flexible stiffener and injection caps.
